In 629-645 A.D. a Chinese traveler, a Buddhist monk by the name of Xuan Zang (Sanzoh Houshi), crossed Central Asia on his way to India. It was during this time that diplomatic, trade, cultural and spiritual relations between China and Central Asia were at their peak. The United Nations General Assembly recognized the International Day of Navruz
UN Sixty-fourth General Assembly adopted the resolution on recognition of the 21st of March as International Day of Navruz. According to the preamble of the resolution (document A/64/L.30/Rev.2), Navruz, which means ‘new day, is celebrated as the beginning of the new year. by more than 300 million people worldwide. It has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions.

Uzbekistan Airways opens new flights
In summer flight schedule, which Uzbekistan Airways has started to operate, new routes were added, the frequency of some flights increased and on two routes the aircrafts were renewed.
Read more First of all, Uzbekistan Airways introduces new route Tashkent-Madrid-Geneva- Tashkent (the flight operates on Tuesdays), and Tashkent-Geneva-Madrid-Tashkent (the flight operates on Fridays)
The company also plans to introduce the direct Tashkent-Milan flight. Starting from June this year the flight frequency to New York and Kiev will increase to two flights per week.
One more brand-new flight from Tashkent to Khabarovsk will be introduced from July 15th. The company also introduced additional flight from Tashkent to Tel Aviv available every Saturday.
The flights to Seoul will be operated on the aircrafts of higher passenger capacity. The aircrafts operating Namangan-Moscow route are substituted for bigger liners. In the second half of the year there will also introduced the flight from Tashkent to Kaliningrad.
New schedule is valid from March 28 till October 2010.

High speed electric trains will operate Tashkent-Samarkand railway line
In Uzbekistan there has been recently confirmed the source of finance for purchasing of two passenger high-speed electric trains Talgo-250 from Spain. The project is aimed at improvement of traffic on Tashkent-Samarkand railway section. Introduction of new high-speed trains will make for considerable increase of quality of services rendered to passengers, as well as for the further development of tourist railway transportation.
Read more The delivery of trains is scheduled for March-April 2011. These trains will run between Tashkent and Samarkand at a speed of 250 km per hour thus reducing by one third the travel time on this 356 km section of railway. At present this section is operated by fast trains “Registan”, which were introduced in 2004 and which cover the distance between Tashkent and Samarkand in 3.5 hours.

Museum of Astronomy opened in Uzbekistan
This year the National Nature Museum, which is one of the country’s oldest science and education establishments, is to re-open its halls to the public.
Read more Until recently the museum occupied the building in the old part of Tashkent. In 2004, under the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, it was decided to relocate the expositions of this museum to one of the buildings of Institute of Zoology.
By now the museum fund has been moved to the new building and the museum specialists are working on arranging the expositions. The exhibits are being restored or renewed; new installations and dioramas are being built. One after another the museum halls will be opened for public. The first expositions will be ready this year. Meanwhile the visitors can view some of interesting exhibits in the gallery.
The National Nature Museum is one of the oldest museums of Uzbekistan. It was organized 130 years ago. Its funds number more than 400 000 valuable exhibits.

Khiva hosts the traditional Festival "Asrlar sadosi 2010"
On May 8-9 Khiva, which lies in the heart of Khorezm oasis, will host one of the most significant events sponsored by Fund Forum organization and UNESCO – the Festival of traditional cultural heritage “Asrlar sadosi”(Echo of centuries).
For the third time the Festival will present the diversity of Uzbek national traditions, applied art, national cuisine, various forms of oral and intangible heritage of Uzbekistan.
Read more Every year the Festival is held in various regions of Uzbekistan. In 2008 it started in Shakhrisabz - the homeland of Temur. In 2009Tashkent which was celebrating its 2200th anniversary became the venue of this event. This year the Festival is to take place in Ichan-Kala, the ancient part of Khiva which is included into the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Khiva has a rich history which extends about 2500 years and is one of the major centres on the Great Silk Road. Today Khiva with its numerous minarets and domes is a vivid example of Central Asian medieval architecture.
This year the programme of the Festival includes the traditional street festivities, the performances of folklore groups, fairs of applied arts, national garments show, master classes by Uzbekistan historians and art experts.

Archeological findings
Paleontologists of Uzbekistan found the skull of a giant Indricotherium
In Uzbekistan, during the earth-moving works In Namangan (Ferghana Province) there was found the skull of an ancient relative of modern rhinoceros. After the analysis of the skull found at the depth of 10 metres the scientist came to the conclusion that it belongs to Indricotherium –an extinct genus of gigantic hornless rhinoceros-like mammals existing approximately 30-20 million years ago.
Read more This is the largest land mammal known (up to 8 metres in height). It was a herbivore that stripped leaves from trees and high bushes.
Rather often the remains of Indricotherium are found in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and northern China.

A new restaurant, a traditional hospitality
Caravan One restaurant, which was opened not so long ago, is a harmonic combination of various elements: interior decoration, cuisine, friendly atmosphere.
Here in Caravan One restaurant each square metre of a wall, ceiling, window, or floor presents the samples of national applied art created by masters from different parts of Uzbekistan . For example, the ceiling is supported by the 19th-century wooden beam; the floor is laid with ancient bricks. The furniture is exclusively antique, upholstered with Uzbek national hand-made fabrics. The earthenware for the restaurant was made by a well-known ceramist Nazirov A. in “ishkor” style from ecologically clean material.
Read more The lighting plays an important role in the interior of the restaurant and creates the oriental romantic atmosphere, accentuating the asperity of multi-layer stucco decoration and finesse of décor.
But the main feature of the restaurant which makes it differ from other catering enterprises of Tashkent is its cuisine. No fats, mayonnaise, genetic engineering products are used for making dishes. The salads are dressed only with olive oil, fruits and vegetables which are served here have been grown in natural conditions.
Even plov, the national Uzbek dish, is prepared as a dietary dish in full conformity with recommendations of ancient healer of the East – Avicenna.
In addition, Caravan One restaurant is a combination of two worlds: a restaurant and an art gallery presenting a collection of artistic works. The collection includes paintings, graphic arts, ceramics, carpets, wood carving, jewelry, embroidery, and much more.
The restaurant for 85 seats is open round the clock, seven days a week.

The first interactive entertainment club «eCity.uz 3D» opened in Tashkent
In Uzbek capital there was opened the first interactive entertainment club which features up-to-date technologies in the game and entertainment industry.
For those who fancy auto driving stimulators there are special auto stands which simulate for the players unusual sensations of the virtual auto race. The stands are equipped with special 3D eyeglasses (LCD-shutter) and a monitor with stereo image support.
